Taken in the summer on a still day in the early morning. This bridge provides a direct link from Eastern Quay and Britannia Village to the ExCel Exhibition Centre. It is a Fink truss bridge built in 1998

Taken at Trinity Buoy Wharf. The Lighthouse - which was built in 1864 - was never used to aid navigation on the Thames, but to experiment and develop lighting equipment. Today it also has an authentic 1940’s style ‘Fat Boy’s’ American Diner in front of it

This view taken in the early morning shows the Cab Tree Sculpture. It is now on top of the Café in Trinity Buoy Wharf. This was moved here from Orchard Place on 2017. Andrew Baldwin has many other sculptures set around the wharf

On the left is a coal-fired twin-screw steam tug, called the Portwey. It was built in 1927 in Harland & Wolff in Govan and served coaling companies in the South West of England

You can often find big boats moored in the South Docks. This is the luxury cruise liner MS Deutschland, which was berthed in South Quay, for the London Olympics in 2012

It was created by the French sculptor Pierre Vivant and is 8 metres tall and containing 75 sets of lights. The pattern of the lights is said to reveal and reflect the never ending rhythm of the surrounding domestic, financial and commercial activities

Looking north west is the newest part of Canary Wharf. The quayside now has a year-round summery atmosphere together with a small park to explore

The new Crossrail station has been built inside the dock water area within West India Quay North Dock - opposite Billingsgate Market. It is one of Europe’s largest railway and infrastructure construction projects. Crossrail Place’s station, retail space and park areas are six storeys high. It also has a roof garden that is free to visit which sits almost exactly on the Meridian line. The garden’s planting is arranged according to which hemisphere they are from.

This view is taken from Reuters Plaza looking west along Middle Dock, which was one of the three docks that made up West India Dock. The tall building at the end is the Newfoundland - a 220-metre residential skyscraper between Westferry Road and Bank Street on the western side of Canary Wharf.

This picture was taken on the eastern side of Limehouse Basin. It was opened in 1820 as the eastern terminus of the new Regent’s Canal. It was big enough to admit 2,000-ton ships and throughout its working life, the basin was better known as the Regent’s Canal Dock and was used to transship goods between the old Port of London and the English canal system.

This historic pub was built in1520 and is the oldest riverside tavern. It’s named after a bulk cargo ship that used to moor on the bank outside on a regular basis. It was previously known as The Pelican and later as the Devil’s Tavern because it was a meeting place for sailors, smugglers, cut-throats and footpads. In the 17th century, it became the hostelry of choice of “Hanging” Judge Jeffreys - hence the hangman’s noose.

Built-in 1832, this was the new eastern entrance to the London Docks. It was expanded for larger ships in 1850. The London Docks closed in 1969 and were redeveloped as a residential area in 1987. Shadwell Basin is also known as an outdoor activity centre providing water sports and adventurous activities. In 1936, residents of Shadwell were involved in the Battle of Cable Street against Oswald Mosley.

This is situated at the start of Wapping High Street a short distance from St Katherine Docks. This was once the western exit/entrance into the London Docks, which specialised in luxury commodities such as silk, spices and tobacco. It is now a tranquil residential area with avenues of trees and it is also the start of the Spirit Quay Canal.

Tower Bridge is London’s iconic Grade I listed bridge built between 1886 and 1894 and combines a drawbridge and a suspension bridge. The bridge is 240m long and consists of two bridge towers connected at the upper level by two horizontal walkways - which you can visit and walk across. The bridge opens around 800 times per year and the architect was sir Horace Jones

“Fenchurch” means “church in the fen” and refers to St Gabriel, a church that stood near here before the Great Fire of London in 1666. Fenchurch Street links Aldgate in the east with Lombard Street in the west, and the area has many corporate offices and financial buildings. One of these buildings is 20 Fenchurch Street, nicknamed “The Walkie-Talkie” because of its distinctive shape. It has a three-floor “sky garden” at the top, with restaurants and bars open to the public.

Leadenhall Market is one of the oldest markets in London and dates from the 14th century. It is right in the heart of the City of London on the site once the epicentre of Roman London. The current structure was designed in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones, who also designed Billingsgate Fish Market and Tower Bridge. Today, it’s home to boutique retailers, pubs, wine bars and restaurants. The market was also used as the location of Diagon Alley in the first Harry Potter film.

This is (and old) view looking north from the viewing platform at the top of the Monument after climbing up its 345 steps. This shows some of London’s first skyscrapers, such as the Gherkin, Tower 42 and the Heron Tower. Today, the skyline is a lot more crowded. The mesh around the platform was added in the mid-19th century after six people committed suicide by jumping off the top – about the same as the official number who died in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
